A little learning...

My boss was at a conference yesterday. I have a number of issues with this. Firstly, did he tell me where he was yesterday, no he did not. Secondly, what's he wasting his time doing, swanning off to doze the day out in some plush hotel - that's my job! And, most concerningly, he's come back with information. Information is a bad thing, particularly for bosses. Next step is knowledge, and perish the thought ideas!

He's messing with the natural order here! If he had any expertise on the subject he'd be doing my job. Thankfully the 300 or so emails that backed up when he was away should dissuade from any more frivolities in the future.

I spent much of Friday in a pool hall. Which resulted in me getting some serious grief from the Finance Director about my work ethic. I mean, I only raised the point that: we had said best of 13 frames, it was 3 o'clock, and I did have a Board paper to write - so can we go back to work now please.....

Don't fancy yours much....

I've had, it has to be said, a horrid day. I'm on a train at 7am, heading Northwards. I'm lugging a laptop, which is a clear sign I'm not just out stretching my legs.

The call centre is a hovel, I'm scrabbling under the desks for a LAN cable, 'cause there's no spare seats. To dial in to a 'team meeting' - team meetings are the height of indignity. I can accept updating the Board, but my peers!?!?! Gah!

After 2 hours of that torment, it's back-to-back meetings for the rest of the day - punctuated by a limp sandwich in the cafeteria. Depressingly the meetings are on issues I actually have to care about. I get out at 5, missing my connection and facing a 2 hour wait on a bleak station platform.

SO, a day out of the office with no restaurants, galleries, or cocktails in sight....It's a sobering moment. I think I may have had a, mercifully brief, experience of 'work'

How do people cope?

Here's a depressing website:

How well off do you have to be, before you actually feel it.....
