People running, is quite the saddest sight to see in an office. In my working life, I've never raised the tempo beyond an amble, and see no reason to start now. What are they thinking they're going to miss? There'll be another crisis along in a minute, so there's no sense sweating over this one. Kick back, relax, take a load off. Then, by the time you get there, more than likely, it'll have withered into a minor inconvenience that can be safely ignored. Or, conversely, it'll blossom into a shit tsunami, laying waste to all in it's path; a fuck-up of such monumental proportions they'll have no choice but to make you a Director.
Yet scamper hither and thither they do. And inevitably they're built for comfort, not speed. Now I admit, I'd be less troubled if it were some of our leggier graduate trainees gambolling between the filing cabinets. But no, it's always a matronly Project Manger, face puce, puffing like an engine; hurling herself down the office - a little corporate hero.

All in all, not a bad week:
Monday in Glasgow, fairly inconsequential meetings at 10 and 4, so the rest of the day's mine. They have a quite passable modern art gallery in the town.
Tuesday, Basildon. The town is packed with tattooed teenage mums - "I'll not farkin tell you again <lauren/kylie/shane/jordan/jade>" rings out across the shabby shopping centre. It is simply the most depressing place I've visited in a long time. I blow off the afternoon and enjoy the charming market town of Maldon.
Wednesday, Central London. Obviously the Regional Manager I arranged the visits with has not informed the troops, so I am greeted with blank looks and disarray at every appointment. I draw a line under the chaos, and end the day at 12. Giving me just enough time for a visit to St Paul's. Absolutely the finest view in London from the top.
Thursday - 4 hours driving Northwards; 45 minutes in a meeting; 4 hours driving Southwards.
Friday - actually in the office. But, judicially double booked for most of the day, so coasted from one teleconference to another, without leaving my desk.

Quickly as you can, snatch the pebble from my hand
I'm am suffering from extreme sleep deprivation. I'm hopelessly addicted to BBC3's 'Mind Body & Kickass Moves', which they so helpfully schedule at 1am. For those who are not nocturnal, the basic premise is: affable Brummie Chris Crudelli travels round the world getting his ass kicked by wizened octogenarians. Now Chris has got some pretty serious game as a martial artist himself; but it only takes these little oriental grandfathers about 30 seconds to jam their foot right up his chakra. It's like Enter the Dragon produced by the Pebble Mill team; but bizarrely entertaining.
