2006 Resolutions: Progress Report

Leave my job: 1 interview - must try harder

Sign a band: Getting serious grief from my record label. Difficult to explain to them that I can't find the next Artic Monkeys at the moment 'cause I've got to do a Board report on improving the remortgage application process - not very rock n roll....This whole A&R thing is not quite the fun one might imagine, Having to deal with some complete arsehole managers, and getting attitude off snotty kids who've just lucked out and got themselves a good support slot, so think EMI are going to be on the phone any minute with a 3 album deal. Maps - signed to BMG; Headway - signed to Geffen; Good Shoes - signed to Brille......A for effort, C- for achievement

Understand 'Beyond Good and Evil': Chapter 3 - good

Complete the screenplay, and get it optioned: 1 DV Short in the can. Ongoing meetings with Producer about next project. Little actual writing being achieved - passable

Blog more often: - hopeless.....

Bench 300lb: Up to 220, but a week skiving soon drops that back to 200 - 'feel the burn'

This summer, I will mostly be seeing:

Dot-to-dot Festival, Nottingham, 28th May

Summer Sundae, Leicester, 13th August

Carling Festival, Leeds, 25th August

In a triumph of experience over expectation, I didn't buy a V2006 ticket.

Eurovision: Nation shrieking unto nation

Churchill said ""Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.". He obviously never envisaged 'Eurovision: Making Your Mind Up!'

A nation of half-wits stir from the sofa, prod their stubby digits into the mobile, and nominate Daz Sampson. A music industry hack, responsible for such gems as The Barndance Boys and Uniting Nations. Daz truly is whiter than white. He makes Richard Madeley and Tim Westwood look like Biggie and Tupac. To say his rhyme lacks 'flavour' is something of an understatement; containing such Wildean couplets as "give the kids the time, they won't do the crime" (Gil Scott-Heron it aint). All this accompanied by dancers dressed as schoolgirls (and there's me thinking Jonathan King was no longer involved in our Eurovision campaigns....)

Not that there was much choice for an alternative. Four photocopiers salesmen from Droitwich. The ugly one from Blue. And for the love of Eurovision (Dana be her name), what possessed Kym Marsh to choose such a godawful song. The contest is as camp as a scout jamboree; Kym is a big gay icon - get Piaf on our asses!! I'm seeing bluebirds, white cliffs, bird flu - they'd be weeping into their faux fur cushions.

I'm ashamed to be British

Grrrr. Interview on Tuesday. The pimp (recruitment consultant) had described it as "just a chat". It now transpires this is a 30min presentation, the title of which is basically 'We are hopelessly out of our depth in a failed brand extension; into a market we know nothing about. We're too embarrassed to pull the plug, but have no idea how to move forward. Give us some free consultancy'.

White powder addiction

I'm leaving BigCo far, far behind for a few weeks, and doing this:

13,000ft up in the Rockies, just me and the mountain.
